An Exchange Traded Fund is a group of securities that trade on an exchange.
ETFs can contain all types of financial instruments, for instance: stocks, commodities, bonds or even a mix of them. Also can contain different indexes, countries, markets, continents, industries, you name it.
There is an ETF for every need and situation.
Because since they disrupted the Markets in the 90's that they are proving to be one of best and most efficient ways of investement due to their returns vs effort.
Therefore the increasing number of investors and amount of money invested on ETFs.
You can find lots of sources of information and research about US ETFs, but not many about European listed ETFs.
